The contraceptive injection is medroxyprogesterone, given every 13 weeks (Sayana Press) or 12 weeks (Depo-Provera). It is over 99% effective, oestrogen-free and discreet, and many people get lighter periods or none. Sayana Press can be self-injected at home after a quick demonstration; Depo-Provera is given by a doctor in clinic.
