What's involved

A China visa medical generally involves the following, based on China's current requirements as we understand them today.

  • Examination: Full physical: vitals, vision, skin, lymph nodes, ENT, heart, lungs, abdomen, spine, extremities, nervous system; disease-history questionnaire; mental-health screen

  • Bloods: FBC, Hepatitis B, syphilis serology, HIV, urinalysis. Additional charge, confirmed at consultation.

  • Chest X-ray: For TB screening. Referred to our imaging partner; additional charge.

  • Other tests: ECG; optional eye test

  • The report: Completed on the destination's own form, an embassy template, or a covering report we draft, with all signatures and stamps included.

Good to know

  • Requirements and forms are your responsibility. Visa medical requirements change and embassies do not always announce it, so you must check the current requirements directly with the China embassy or High Commission in London, obtain the correct forms, and satisfy yourself that you have exactly what your application needs. We will help wherever we can, but confirming what China requires is yours to do.

  • Part of this process may need to be completed in the destination country; we complete the UK part.

  • Certificates are officially recognised only when issued/confirmed by the health authority of the issuing country; a routine UK GP certificate may need separate embassy or in-country verification. A second exam at a Chinese government hospital after arrival is common for Z-visa-to-residence.
