What you need to know
A look at how your liver is working, from one finger-prick sample at home. Worth doing if you are reviewing how much you drink, are taking a medicine the liver has to handle, or want a baseline before you start one.
It measures five markers:
Alanine Transaminase (ALT), an enzyme that rises when liver cells are irritated
Albumin, a protein the liver makes
Alkaline Phosphatase, an enzyme linked to the liver and the bile system
Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT), an enzyme sensitive to the bile system and to alcohol
Total Bilirubin, a pigment the liver processes
The same finger-prick sample can cover a good deal more. Our General Health Blood Test Kit is £89 and carries these five liver markers alongside cholesterol and triglycerides, blood sugar, kidney function, iron, and calcium and urate. There are two ways to have your liver checked and this page is the home kit: you take the sample yourself and it reports the five markers above. The other way is a blood draw at our Westfield clinic, which also reports Aspartate Transaminase and Ferritin, and is listed on our blood test directory with the appointment priced separately. Aspartate Transaminase is not on the home kit because it does not survive the post.
