Dr Seth Rankin

MBChB MRCGP. Founder of LoveMyLife. Former NHS Commissioner and Managing Partner of Wandsworth Medical Centre.

23 April 2026

Dr Seth Rankin is a London-based general practitioner (GP) and the founder of LoveMyLife. He has practised medicine across National Health Service (NHS) and private settings in London since 1998. He was Managing Partner of Wandsworth Medical Centre for ten years, and served on the Board of Wandsworth Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) as an NHS Commissioner for nine years.

Training

Dr Rankin qualified in medicine at Auckland School of Medicine, New Zealand, with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) in 1990. He holds a Diploma of Obstetrics from Otago School of Medicine, New Zealand (1992). He qualified as a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) through the London Deanery in 2004 and is on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for General Practice (GMC number 44676397).

Early career

Between 1993 and 1999, Dr Rankin worked as a junior doctor in full-time and locum positions across New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom. He moved to London in 1998 and worked for four years as Senior Coordinating Doctor at International SOS, the global medical assistance and repatriation service, where the work involved coordinating care across healthcare systems in dozens of countries. He completed UK GP training (MRCGP) in London in 2004.

NHS general practice: Wandsworth Medical Centre

Dr Rankin was Managing Partner of Wandsworth Medical Centre from 2006 to 2016. He led operational changes to improve patient access and the day-to-day experience of attending the practice.

NHS commissioning

Between 2007 and 2016, Dr Rankin served as a Board Member and Clinical Lead at Wandsworth Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Wandsworth CCG, representing twenty-four GP practices on the commissioning board. He chaired the Healthcare and Social Services Integration Group and led cross-sector integration work between NHS and Social Services in the borough.

He also served as Implementation Board Chairman for the Psychological Therapies Board (2009 to 2011) and as a Director of Wandsworth Integrated Healthcare (2009 to 2016).

NHS Community Virtual Wards

From 2008 to 2017, Dr Rankin was Clinical Lead for the NHS Community Virtual Wards project in Wandsworth. The model brought together primary care, social services, and community nursing into multi-disciplinary teams led by full-time GPs, with the aim of keeping clinically complex patients safely at home and reducing unscheduled hospital admissions. Core elements of the Wandsworth model have since been adopted by similar services in other parts of the UK.

Founded services

Dr Rankin has founded four healthcare services in London.

  • London Travel Clinic (2010 to 2018). A group of travel clinics in central London offering vaccinations and pre-travel advice.

  • London Doctors Clinic (2014 to 2022). A chain of private GP clinics offering on-demand appointments and technology-enabled booking.

  • London Medical Laboratory (2019 to 2024). A direct-to-consumer blood testing laboratory with collection centres in pharmacies and high-street locations nationwide. During the pandemic it was an early provider of public antibody and PCR testing.

  • LoveMyLife (current). A phygital private GP clinic at Westfield London combining consultations, diagnostics, and on-site dispensing.

Editorial

Dr Rankin writes the "Understanding UK healthcare" series on lovemylife.com. The series covers how the NHS and the parallel private system are structured, how UK doctors are trained, why the NHS uses GPs as gatekeepers, how UK healthcare is funded, and how to navigate the system as a patient.
