For ADHD
The calming non-stimulant. Particularly good for hyperactivity, impulsivity and tics.
This medicine requires a prescription from a registered prescriber following a clinical consultation.
Guanfacine (Intuniv) is an alpha-2A adrenergic receptor agonist – a completely different class of medication from both stimulants and atomoxetine. It’s particularly useful for patients where hyperactivity and impulsivity are the dominant symptoms (rather than inattention), where co-existing tic disorders need treatment alongside ADHD, and where oppositional or emotional dysregulation features are prominent. It has a calming, focusing effect and can improve sleep.
