Medikinet XL has a 50:50 immediate-to-extended release split – half the dose releases immediately and half releases later. This gives the fastest, strongest initial onset of any long-acting methylphenidate, making it a good choice for patients who need a powerful morning kick-start. Duration is approximately 8 hours. Like Equasym XL, the capsules can be opened and sprinkled on food. Importantly, Medikinet XL is licensed for adults as well as children – one of few methylphenidate MR preparations with an adult licence.
