Relief of menopausal symptoms including hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, vaginal dryness, and sleep disturbance. Also provides bone protection. Must be combined with a progestogen (e.g. Utrogestan) if you have a womb, to protect the womb lining.

Evorel patches deliver body-identical 17-beta estradiol through the skin at a steady rate. You apply a new patch twice weekly (every 3-4 days) to your lower abdomen, hip, or buttock. Transdermal delivery avoids first-pass liver metabolism, meaning it does not increase clotting risk in the way oral oestrogen can.

Women experiencing menopausal symptoms who prefer a patch over gel or tablets. Particularly suitable for women with risk factors for blood clots, as transdermal oestrogen does not increase VTE risk. Also suitable for women with migraine, raised BMI, liver conditions, or those who find daily application of gel inconvenient. Start with 50mcg; adjust up or down based on symptom control.

Common: breast tenderness, headache, skin irritation at patch site. Uncommon: nausea, bloating. Transdermal oestrogen does not carry the increased VTE risk associated with oral oestrogen. Rotate patch sites to minimise skin irritation.

Known or suspected breast cancer, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, active or recent VTE (unless on anticoagulants and using transdermal), untreated endometrial hyperplasia, active liver disease, porphyria.

Fewer drug interactions than oral oestrogen since it bypasses the liver. CYP3A4 inducers may still have some effect. Thyroid replacement: may need dose adjustment.

Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Apply to clean, dry, non-irritated skin on your lower abdomen, hip, or buttock. Change twice weekly. Do not apply to breasts. Rotate sites to prevent irritation. If you have a womb, you MUST take a progestogen alongside Evorel. Patches can be worn in the bath or shower. If a patch falls off, apply a new one and keep to your usual schedule. Review your HRT with a prescriber at least annually.
