Fluconazole
For Fungal Infections (Thrush & Systemic)
One capsule for vaginal thrush. Longer courses for stubborn fungus.
In brief…
Fluconazole is the most commonly used oral antifungal in the UK. It’s well-absorbed, well-tolerated and effective against most Candida species.

What you need to know
Vaginal candidiasis (thrush), oral candidiasis, oesophageal candidiasis, fungal skin infections not responding to topical treatment, and systemic fungal infections.
Fluconazole inhibits fungal CYP450 enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase, blocking the production of ergosterol - an essential component of fungal cell membranes. Without ergosterol, the fungal cell membrane becomes leaky and the organism dies.
Adults and children. Single dose for vaginal thrush (OTC). Longer courses for other fungal infections. Important drug interactions (CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 inhibitor) - increases levels of warfarin, statins and many others. Caution in liver disease.
Order online and we review your request. A prescriber checks your consultation form for clinical appropriateness and contacts you if anything else is needed. Once approved, your medication is dispensed and delivered to your door.
