Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) - abdominal pain, cramping and discomfort. Also used for other intestinal spasms.

Mebeverine acts directly on smooth muscle in the gut, reducing spasm without affecting normal gut motility. Unlike anticholinergic antispasmodics, it works through a direct myorelaxant effect, so it doesn’t cause the typical drying side effects.

Adults and children over 10 with IBS symptoms. Very well-tolerated with minimal side effects. Safe for long-term use. Available OTC.

Take 20 minutes before meals, three times daily (or twice daily for MR). Take regularly for best results, not just when symptoms flare. Very few side effects. Often works best alongside dietary changes (low FODMAP diet). If symptoms don’t improve after 2 weeks, see your doctor.
