What you need to know
Acute treatment of migraine attacks (with or without aura). Not for prevention -- only for treating an attack once it's started.
Sumatriptan activates serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptors in cranial blood vessels, causing them to constrict. It also inhibits the release of inflammatory neuropeptides. This tackles the two main drivers of migraine pain: dilated blood vessels and neurogenic inflammation.
Adults with migraine. Available over the counter (50mg) and on prescription (100mg). Not suitable if you have uncontrolled hypertension, coronary artery disease, previous stroke, or peripheral vascular disease. Not for hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
Order online and we review your request. A prescriber checks your consultation form for clinical appropriateness and contacts you if anything else is needed. Once approved, your medication is dispensed and delivered to your door.
