What you need to know
Acute muscle spasm (particularly back spasm), anxiety (short-term), alcohol withdrawal, and seizures.
Diazepam enhances the effect of GABA, the brain's main calming neurotransmitter. This reduces nerve activity throughout the central nervous system, which relaxes muscles, reduces anxiety and has sedative effects.
Adults with acute muscle spasm, for short-term use only (typically 5--7 days maximum). Not suitable for chronic pain management, respiratory depression, sleep apnoea, or anyone with a history of benzodiazepine dependency.
Order online and we review your request. A prescriber checks your consultation form for clinical appropriateness and contacts you if anything else is needed. Once approved, your medication is dispensed and delivered to your door. Controlled drugs require additional clinical checks. We may need to contact you or your GP before dispensing.

Common: drowsiness, sedation, fatigue, muscle weakness, confusion (especially in elderly), ataxia (unsteadiness). Uncommon: amnesia (memory loss), paradoxical reactions (agitation, aggression). Serious: respiratory depression in overdose. Dependence develops rapidly - keep courses as short as possible (2-4 weeks maximum).
Do not use in severe respiratory insufficiency, sleep apnoea syndrome, severe hepatic insufficiency, myasthenia gravis. Do not use in acute alcohol or drug intoxication.
Enhanced sedation with alcohol - do not drink alcohol while taking. Opioids: risk of profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death - avoid combination where possible. Other CNS depressants (antihistamines, antidepressants) increase sedation.
Avoid in pregnancy, especially in the 1st trimester (risk of cleft palate) and near delivery (risk of neonatal withdrawal and floppy infant syndrome). Not recommended during breastfeeding.
Take for the shortest time possible -- typically no more than 5--7 days. Causes drowsiness and impairs driving. Do not drink alcohol. Highly addictive with longer use. Controlled drug. Not a long-term solution for pain or muscle tension.

Driving & machinery
Causes significant impairment of driving ability. It is an offence to drive with certain controlled drugs above specified limits. Do not drive or operate machinery during treatment and for an appropriate period after stopping.
Age restriction
Adults 18 and over. Short-term use only (2-4 weeks). Use lowest effective dose in elderly patients (increased sensitivity and fall risk).
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
