Wegovy Pill (oral semaglutide tablets)

Long-term weight management. Wegovy Tablets are for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above with at least one weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol.

Semaglutide mimics a natural gut hormone called GLP-1. It slows how quickly your stomach empties, helps you feel full sooner, and quiets the 'food noise' that makes weight loss so difficult. The tablet delivers the same medicine as the Wegovy pen, taken by mouth once a day rather than injected once a week.

You take one tablet when you wake, with a small sip of plain water and nothing else, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking any other tablets. This gap lets the medicine absorb properly. You start on a low dose and step up gradually.

Adults with obesity, or who are overweight with a weight-related health condition, who would rather take a daily tablet than inject. Your doctor checks your medical history, current medications and overall health to make sure it is right for you.

Very common: nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, usually most pronounced while the dose is increasing and easing with time. Common: abdominal pain, indigestion, bloating, fatigue, dizziness, headache. Uncommon: gallstones, pancreatitis (stop and seek medical help if you get severe, persistent abdominal pain). Unlike the pens there are no injection-site reactions.

Do not use if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Do not use in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Use with caution with a history of pancreatitis, severe gastrointestinal disease, or diabetic retinopathy.

Because it slows stomach emptying and must be taken on an empty stomach, Wegovy Tablets can affect how other tablets are absorbed. Take it on its own and leave at least 30 minutes before any other oral medicine, food or drink. Insulin and sulfonylureas: increased risk of low blood sugar (a dose reduction may be needed). Levothyroxine and some other narrow-window medicines may need monitoring. Tell us everything you take so we can check.

Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Discontinue at least 2 months before planned conception (GLP-1 agonists). Ensure effective contraception during treatment.

How we verify before prescribing: a doctor reviews your assessment and independently verifies your weight, height, BMI and identity before prescribing. The simplest way is a short video of you weighing in on your own scales and holding your photo ID, uploaded with your order. A recent photo plus your records works too, and we may ask for a quick video call if anything is unclear. We never prescribe on a questionnaire alone. Before prescribing, your doctor will verify your weight, height and BMI, review your full medical history and current medications, access your records or contact your GP with your consent, and make sure the prescription is right for you in line with NICE guidance. We then review you regularly to keep an eye on your progress.

You start on 1.5mg and increase in steps to 4mg, 9mg and 25mg, moving up roughly every four weeks as your body adjusts. The timing matters: take it first thing with no more than a small sip of water, swallow the tablet whole without splitting or crushing it, and leave at least 30 minutes before anything else by mouth. Nausea is the most common side effect and usually settles. Not suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2.
