Should I have a PSA test?

If you are over 50, or over 40 with a family history or from a higher-risk group, it is reasonable to start. We talk it through so the choice is informed, including what PSA can and cannot tell you.

Is there a rectal examination?

No. It is a simple blood test, with no rectal examination now or as a next step. Imaging has replaced the finger.

My PSA came back raised elsewhere. Can you help?

Yes. Bring the result. We put it in context, repeat it if that is right, and arrange an MRI if it is warranted.

Do I need to prepare?

Avoid vigorous cycling and ejaculation for 48 hours before the PSA, as both can nudge the reading up. We remind you when you book.

Can I share my results with my NHS GP?

Yes. The report is yours. Forward the email or hand a printed copy to your NHS GP.

What's included

The whole check runs online: you answer the questionnaire, we arrange your PSA at home or at a partner near you, and a doctor reviews it and writes your report. If your PSA or history warrants a scan, the MRI is at our imaging partner, with the doctor authorising and explaining it. You never need to come to us.

What we do not do

No routine digital rectal examination. It is no longer the right screening test. Where the PSA or your history warrants a closer look, a prostate MRI is the modern next step, and it does not need a rectal examination first.

At a partner: the prostate MRI, where your PSA or history warrants it, with the doctor authorising the referral and explaining the result.

There is no reason to come to Westfield for a prostate check, and no rectal examination at any stage.
