The Mounjaro price change in the UK: what it means if you are on it

Lilly raised the UK price of Mounjaro from 1 September 2025. If you are part way through treatment, here are your real options and when to talk to a doctor.

From 1 September 2025, Eli Lilly raised the UK list price of every strength of Mounjaro (tirzepatide) sold to private pharmacies and clinics. The rise was largest on the higher doses, so people further into treatment felt it most. Every private provider in the UK buys from the same manufacturer, so the change reached everyone, not one pharmacy.

NHS patients were not affected: if Mounjaro is prescribed on the NHS, you pay the usual prescription charge.

What it means if you are mid-titration

Mounjaro is started at 2.5mg and usually stepped up every four weeks. Higher doses cost more. If you are part way up the ladder, the price of the next step matters as much as the price of the one you are on.

The good news: you do not have to reach the top dose. Many people do well on 5mg, 7.5mg or 10mg. If your weight is coming down steadily and side effects are manageable, staying where you are is a reasonable clinical choice, not a compromise.

Your options

  • Stay on Mounjaro at your current dose. If it is working, there is often no need to step up.

  • Stay on Mounjaro and keep stepping up. The right choice if you have stalled and your doctor agrees a higher dose will help.

  • Switch to Wegovy (semaglutide). A weekly injection that works for many people. A switch is planned by a doctor: you usually restart at a lower Wegovy dose rather than jumping to an equivalent.

  • Switch to the Wegovy pill. A daily tablet of the same medicine as the Wegovy injection, for people who would rather not inject.

  • Stop. Weight often returns after stopping, so if you stop, plan it with a doctor and keep the habits that are working.

What not to do

Do not buy tirzepatide from an unregulated seller or a "research" website. Do not try to split or stretch a pen beyond its licensed doses without a doctor. Do not stop suddenly and restart months later at a high dose: restarting usually means going back to a lower dose.

When to talk to a doctor

Talk to us before you change dose, switch medicine, or stop. Talk to us sooner if you have stalled for more than a month, if side effects are getting in the way, or if you have a new health condition or new medicines.

Current prices

Our current Mounjaro prices are on the Mounjaro page. You can compare them with Wegovy and the Wegovy pill. For how the medicines compare clinically, read Mounjaro, Wegovy or the Wegovy pill: which is right for you.
